Subscribers expect fast and seamless access to their favorite applications and want to stay in touch with their relatives wherever they are. Unfortunately, due to the complexity and the size of networks, service quality can be impacted by many technical factors, which can cause customer frustration and dissatisfaction.
Solution
The operator's operational team has integrated the Astellia network assurance solution into its optimization process for over 2 years. The system provides end-to-end visibility to their 3G mobile network performance from RAN to Core network. The solution pinpoints subscribers experiencing poor service quality and precisely idendifies the network failure root cause, linked to:
- Radio coverage
- Network capacity
- Handovers
- Subscribers rights
- Handset settings
Example
1 - Fast identification of the worst performing cells.
On the two worst performing ones, the call drop rates were above 20%, resulting in lost connections and network equipment inefficiency.
Findings
When subscribers were moving away from the area covered by one cell, their phones were moving beyond the cell's range. Their call could not be transferred to a second cell and was then terminated.
2 - Corrective action: add new neighboring cell relationships.
The issue was fixed after adding 2 new 3G neighbor cells.
