Packet Service Monitoring

Delivering unique quality of experience

Providing high quality of experience (QoS) for mobile data services is a key factor in increasing customer satisfaction and retention.

Many vendors claim to provide Quality of Experience (QoE) KPIs but in most cases these metrics only measure the QoS.

Astellia's Packet Service Monitoring (PSM) measures data services QoE perceived from the subscriber's perspective such as MMS, emails, video streaming, Internet and Wap.

The unique PSM quality metrics correlate various KPIs in order to measure the subjective quality experienced by individual users: identify video streaming pixilation due to packet loss, lengthy web page download time linked to low performing servers, low throughput for emails, etc.

Reports based on PSM include Key Quality Indicators such as:

  • Portal Page Access Time (including and excluding PDP Context Activation),
  • Streaming Session Setup Delay,
  • HTTP average throughputs for large files,
  • MMS download / upload rate & time for different file sizes

Video streaming: average access time per cell

PSM generates both Packet Service Data Records (PSDR) and Internet Protocol Data Records (IPDR) for troubleshooting allowing easy drill down investigation from service session summaries to detailed application layers.

These Key Quality metrics are used by operators to analyze and optimize both network equipment and services according to subscriber usage and perception.
