Cigale Iu

UMTS (3G) QoS reporting and optimisation

Cigale Iu is a software suite designed for monitoring, troubleshooting and optimizing UMTS network and services.

Located between the Radio Access Network and the Core Network, the Iu interface is the perfect point to comprehensively evaluate the UMTS network QoS and pinpoint problem causes and origins.

Cigale Iu brings statistical information and troubleshooting facilities based on processing of both circuit (IuCS) and packet (IuPS) procedures that handle calls and data sessions.

Vendor-independent handset benchmarking

Handset Profiling capabilities provide per mobile type statistics and identify problems to specific handset models.

Cigale Iu is also a precious help during the validation phase between operator and equipment vendors as it is independent of the network equipment. It remains available and stable during installation and upgrade phases.

 

Packet Services QoS/QoE reporting and optimisation

Thanks to a rich and ready-to-use set of statistics, Cigale Iu offers extensive reporting tools for network efficiency and user experience for marketing, management and operation teams.

The Packet Services Monitoring (PSM) option provides operators with detailed reports of both the QoS (Quality of Service) and QoE (Quality of Experience) for packet services.

Reports include 3G accessibility and retainability rates, 3G-2G handovers efficiency and complex Quality Indicators such as Portal Page Access Time (including and excluding PDP Context Activation), Streaming Session Setup Delay, FTP Download Rate for different file sizes, etc.

 

Troubleshooting facilities

Top-down troubleshooting facilities such as Activity Reports, Call Trace and detailed protocol decoding provide a quick way to isolate and analyse problems.

Activity Reports sum up important information of:

  • a call or PDP Ctxt (CDR),
  • Media Gateway termination management (H.248 CDR),
  • a packet session between the MS and one application server (PSDR),
  • an IP procedure summary (IPDR) such as HTTP GET, MMS Retrieve Conf…

Call Traces and multi-interface Call Traces including Flow Charts, detailed message summaries, throughput and IP measurement graphs and detailed protocol decoding are provided for deep call investigation whenever necessary.
