Challenge

Over The Top players (OTTs) are flourishing and are generating massive amounts of data traffic on operators’ networks and contribute to network congestion. To cope with this increased traffic, operators need to continuously increase network capacity at their own expense. This situation has created some tension between operators and OTT service providers.

 

Negotiating with OTT service providers can be tough. This operator was therefore looking for objective information to strengthen its negotiation power: which percentage of traffic is due to FaceTime traffic, does YouTube contributes to network congestion, etc.

Solution

SQM OTTThanks to Deep Packet Inspection technology embedded in Nova Analytics, data traffic can be classified amongst more than 250 data protocols and service applications. As a result, more than 95% of the whole traffic can be identified (Instagram, Viber, WhatsApp, YouTube, Skype, etc).
